white-ribbon-day

Denbighshire landmarks will again this year be lit up white on Saturday 25 November to mark White Ribbon Day, a national day to end violence towards women and girls.

Denbighshire County Council and Denbighshire Leisure Limited are supporting White Ribbon Day, the International Day for the Eradication of Violence against Women, which is aimed at raising awareness of male violence towards women and girls, by lighting up its buildings in support of White Ribbon Day.

Rhyl Pavilion Theatre/1891, Rhyl Sky Tower and Pont y Ddraig will all be lit up white to show support.

Councillor Rhys Thomas, Lead Member for Housing and Communities, said: “Ending domestic abuse will always be high on the Council’s agenda and the message is still as important as ever, with violence, harassment and abuse towards women and girls taking place every day in our communities.

“We therefore want to get the message out that you don’t need to suffer, and that help is out there for you.

“Everyone can make a difference by thinking of their own behaviour and being prepared to call out sexist and harassing behaviour when they see it.

“It’s also important to remember that men can also experience domestic abuse and the Council is committed to reducing domestic abuse against both women and men. “

Jamie Groves, Managing Director of Denbighshire Leisure, said: “We are proud to light up our buildings for White Ribbon Day and to provide our unwavering support for this important campaign.

“We can, and must, change this story and keep the conversation going.”

To wear a white ribbon is to pledge never to commit, excuse or remain silent about violence against women.
