Hydes Opens Popular Wrexham Village Pub Followng £100k Investment

Hydes Brewery has reopened The Golden Lion in Rossett, Wrexham, following an extensive interior and exterior £100k refurbishment.

The transformation of the premium dining pub, part of the Hydes estate since 2016, includes new bathroom facilities, newly configured bar areas, the opening up of a doorway entrance previously closed for over 20 years and a complete refresh of the exterior building including new lighting and oak signage in keeping with the pub’s classic black and white decor.

A refresh of the pub’s popular 40 seater tippee including new flooring presents a welcoming and cosy covered outdoor space for the busy Autumn and festive periods, offering an even cosier dining and drinking experience.

The refurb, is sympathetic to The Golden Lion’s existing features, retaining all the charm and character which has made it a major destination venue for diners and drinkers alike and a main focus of community activity in the village.

This latest refurbishment forms part of an ongoing multi-million investment programme in the Hydes estate over the next two years.

Allan Parrington, general manager at The Golden Lion since 2009, has established it as a real community hub for the people of Rossett and surrounding areas. The venue hosts a free community cafe every Friday morning for local elderly and vulnerable people and also stages a hugely popular Christmas market over two weekends in November and December. The market is back for Christmas 2022.

Managing director of Hydes Brewery, Adam Mayers said: “It’s great to see The Golden Lion open again with a cosy brand new look and feel, just in time for the festive period.  As a very popular pub and one that really does play a crucial role in the community to which it belongs, we’re confident that customers old and new are going to enjoy our premium food and drink offering in our newly refurbished venue in very picturesque village surroundings.

“Hydes is fully committed to all of the pubs across its estate and this latest round of investment is part of an ongoing programme of multiple redesigns and refurbishments. Providing our customers with a first-class experience is a key priority and with premium dining destination venues such as The Golden Lion,.”

Allan Parrington, who also doubles at the village Father Christmas and chairman of the village community council as well as running the Golden Lion, said: “This pub is an integral part of the community it serves so I’m excited to see it receive some investment to make it an even more memorable visit for customers. The pivotal role it plays in giving local people somewhere to come and enjoy a warm welcome with such a first-class food and drink offering is very important to the whole team. This investment broadens the appeal greatly and will allow customers existing and new to fully enjoy the atmosphere, surroundings and quality experience on offer.”

Hydes, with its brewery in Media City, Salford, was formed in 1863 and supplies beers to wholesalers, pub companies and other brewers throughout the UK and a pub retailing estate of over 40 pubs across the North West of England and North Wales.
