Demonstrators Take To Streets in Support of Lucy Letby

Demonstrators in Liverpool yesterday turned out to support Lucy Letby, the nurse convicted of murdering seven babies and attempting to murder seven others.
The group calling themselves the Partisan Defence Committee are calling for the current Thingwall enquiry, which is examining events and their aftermath at the Countess of Chester Hospital, to be halted.
The whole debate has been thrown into confusion following an independent panel of experts reporting that the evidence produced in court did not demonstrate babies were killed unlawfully.
A campaign group called NineteenNurses has also been established to speak up on behalf of nurses who they claim are often gagged from speaking out or silenced when whistleblowing.
A spokesperson for the group said “We are a collective of dedicated nurses advocating for healthcare reform and patient safety. As nurses, we must speak out regarding Lucy Letby’s conviction. This is not just about one colleague—this case threatens our entire profession and patient safety.
“Reports compiled by 14 experts have concluded no murders were committed. The Thirlwall Inquiry must be suspended immediately. Truth demands a complete examination of all evidence—not a selective investigation designed to confirm guilt. Justice requires nothing less.
“The government’s leadership, must listen to all healthcare professionals raising concerns about this case. We are fulfilling our duty of candour, yet many Nurses must remain anonymous for fear of retaliation. This is unacceptable.
“Make no mistake: suppressing nurses’ voices directly endangers patients. When we cannot speak freely about concerns, patient safety is compromised. Is this the healthcare system we want?”
The organisation is calling for a bigger voice for nurses who, they say, are all too often made scapegoats for institutional failings and substandard processes.
