Liverpool City Council Partners with TyreSafe to Champion Tyre Safety
Working together to improve tyre maintenance and safety practices on Merseyside.
TyreSafe, the UK’s leading tyre safety charity, is proud to announce a new partnership with Liverpool City Council to promote tyre safety awareness across the region. This collaboration marks a significant step forward in engaging local authorities to embed tyre safety within their road safety campaigns and education initiatives.
The partnership is particularly timely, given the alarming results from TyreSafe’s 2023 Tread Depth Survey, which revealed that over 20% of tyres inspected at the point of replacement in Liverpool were below the legal limit of 1.6mm. These findings highlight the urgent need for increased awareness and action to ensure safer roads and reduce the risk of tyre-related incidents.
TyreSafe Chair, Stuart Lovatt, said “We are delighted to welcome Liverpool City Council as a partner in our mission to improve road safety. With over 20% of tyres in the area falling below the legal tread depth, this partnership will play a crucial role in educating road users about the importance of regular tyre checks and maintenance. Together, we can make a real difference in reducing the number of tyre-related incidents and breakdowns on our roads.”
Councillor Dan Barrington, Cabinet Member for Transport and Connectivity, at Liverpool City Council said “Tyre safety is a key component of our road safety strategy. By partnering with TyreSafe, we are reinforcing our commitment to making Liverpool’s roads safer for all. This initiative will not only raise awareness but also provide our residents with the knowledge and tools they need to ensure their tyres are roadworthy, helping to reduce incidents and promote safer driving across the city.”
As part of the partnership, Liverpool City Council will integrate tyre safety messaging and resources into its road safety campaigns and educational programmes, helping to inform road users about the risks associated with poorly maintained tyres. TyreSafe’s free-to-use assets, including leaflets, posters, and digital content, will be available for local distribution.
