Ghost Housing Estate Back from the Dead
Written by Harry Turnbull
A ghost housing estate blighting a Cheshire community is about to be brought back to life.
Work halted on 215 homes being built at Helsby more than a year ago when Lane End developments collapsed but the project is up and running again.
Seventeen acres of half-finished housing was abandoned leaving a massive headache for Onward Homes housing assocation.
But now Sandy Livingstone, executive director of property, told newsfromthenorth “We are delighted that this development is now back on site working with our partners Countryside Properties.
“Works on our site have re-started and are set to complete in 2027. The development will deliver affordable homes to rent and buy and meet the needs of the local community.
“In addition to providing much needed new homes, we have contributed £1.8m to the council to support local community facilities. We look forward to delivering the scheme and will continue to update residents and their elected representatives as this progresses.”
The site known as Pavilion Park will comprise eighty-five affordable rented homes, one hundred shared ownership and thirty rent-to-buy units.
Mike Amesbury, MP for Runcorn and Helsby “I played my part in keeping up the pressure to get these homes delivered by liaising with the housing association and Homes England.”
The new Labour government will be hoping to push through many more schemes in
counryside areas.
Before going bust Lane End had also been building out a 118-homes development on this former site of Helsby Sports and Social Club with partners Laurus Homes, an arm of the L&Q housing association and the fate of that part of the scheme is still awaited.
