Doncaster care worker wins outstanding achievement award in social care

A devoted carer from Doncaster has won a prestigious award in social care for her exceptional dedication and passion for her role in caregiving.

Alison Haigh, 54, who works for social care group HICA, which provides home care services in Doncaster, took home the regional winner award at the 2023 Great British Care Awards. Next year, she will compete with the winners from other regions in her category for the national award.

Alison, from Doncaster, has been a member of the HICA at Home team for approximately 14 years, consistently going above and beyond in her role. Known for her devotion, creativity and organisational talent, she has a very positive impact on all those she cares for and works with.

HICA Group’s CEO, Terry Peel, said: “Alison represents the best of HICA at Home. Her ability to engage service users in creative and meaningful ways is nothing short of inspiring.

“Her innovative approach and unwavering commitment to enhancing the lives of those in our care truly sets her apart.

“This award is a well-deserved recognition of her exceptional contributions to social care.”

Alison’s unique approach to caregiving involves getting to know those HICA cares for at home and developing a close, trusting relationship with them. As a result, they are more actively involved in the care they receive and the activities they become involved with. She has been instrumental in organising various engaging activities for service users, from Christmas card competitions to Easter sunflower contests.

Commenting on her award win, Alison said: “I am so shocked to win this award. Working in care has always been about bringing joy and a sense of belonging to our service users – that’s such an important part of my job.

“Winning this award isn’t just about me, it’s about the fantastic team I work with and the incredible people we care for every day.”
